Event Information:

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is sponsoring a free online ASAM Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder Course-Buprenorphine Waiver Blended Training at the Mt. Sinai virtual Mt.Sinai-Hepatitis C and Drug user Health Annual Conference on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, 1:30 pm-6:00 pm. You must reside, practice or study in one of the five boroughs of New York City to attend this training

  • All participants must complete a four (4) hour online course prior to attending the live session. The link to the course content will be in your confirmation email. 
  • This training is open to New York City Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Certified Nurse Midwives, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Students and Clinical Nurse Specialists who wish to obtain a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine in an office- based setting for opioid use disorder. You must reside, practice or study in one of the five boroughs of New York City to attend this training.
  • If you are not a NYC medical provider nor student, select the "Waitlist" ticket and you will be contacted prior to the event.
  • Registration by September 14, 2020 is required.
  • One ticket is issued per registrant and is not transferable.

Course Content:

This course covers all medications and treatments for opioid use disorder, and provides 8 hours of required education needed to obtain the waiver to prescribe buprenorphine in an office-based setting. The first four hours are completed online in the ASAM e-LC followed by four hours of live learning in a virtual classroom setting.

In this course you will learn how to:

• Assess patients for the full spectrum of harmful opioid use including misuse and use disorder.

• Summarize the clinical pharmacology, efficacy and safety of methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone in treating opioid use disorder.

• Identify and assess patients who are appropriate for treatment with medications for an opioid use disorder in an office-based setting.

• Describe procedures for initiating, stabilizing, maintaining, monitoring and modifying treatment of patients on buprenorphine or naltrexone.


The American Society of Addiction Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
